Programs and partners
Working alongside emerging manager programs.
Programs that back emerging venture managers often see more first-time funds than a multi-asset team can review in depth, and the managers they back still have to become institutional. We work inside those programs as the venture specialist: reading managers in the pipeline, preparing the ones already backed, and briefing the people who decide.

Ways we work
Six ways to work together.
Manager reads
Written assessments of the emerging venture managers in your pipeline: whether the plan holds together, what the materials show and leave out, and what to ask next. Held to one standard and formatted for your committee.
Teaming on mandates
We join a registered consultant or program manager as the named emerging venture specialist on an RFP or RFI response. The lead firm holds the mandate.
Manager development
Workshops, office hours and readiness reviews on fund construction, LP materials, reporting and next-fund preparation, with Blueprint and Architecture as the working tools.
Team and committee briefings
Sessions on how to evaluate emerging venture managers, built around the decisions in front of your team or committee.
Co-hosted programming
Webinars, panels and written guides for the managers or LPs in your network.
Referrals
Managers who need readiness work come to us, and managers or LPs who fit your program go to you. Allocators can also send managers through a partner link.
Where we fit
The teams we work alongside.
Colibrí Strategies is an advisory firm focused on venture capital, and especially on the emerging managers that institutional programs are built to find. We read managers the way an investment committee does, help the managers a program backs become institutional, and put every judgment in writing so your team can use it.
We do not hold or direct capital, place funds or take success fees, so we never compete with you for a mandate or an allocation. When a mandate requires a registered adviser or fiduciary, we work as part of that firm’s team.
Emerging manager programs
Reads on venture managers in the pipeline, and readiness work for the managers already backed.
Investment consultants
A venture specialist for emerging venture managers across clients, and on bids that call for one.
Accelerators and GP programs
Curriculum on fund construction and LP readiness, delivered with the cohort.
Public and state venture programs
Program review, manager readiness and reporting discipline across the funds a program backs.
Where this sits
Choose the support that fits the question.
Blueprint and Architecture provide a structured way to examine recurring questions about fund readiness and firm design. Advisory gives you direct support with a specific decision, such as changing an allocation screen, reviewing a manager or working through a fund’s reserve policy.
You can use either platform on its own, or discuss an advisory engagement when your question needs more support.
Colibrí Blueprint
Prepare for diligence through the evaluator lens, document consistency audit, firm narrative, fourteen-folder data room, due diligence questionnaire (DDQ) and allocator research. Specialized pathways cover SSBCI, development finance institutions (DFIs) and impact capital. A free readiness diagnostic is available.
Colibrí Architecture
Fund architecture for venture managers: portfolio construction checked against public fund data, eleven checks of how the firm’s design carries it, a plan of record with follow-on decision support, and up to ten funds on one firm record. Its readings are diagnostic, not forecasts of investment performance.
Colibrí Institute
The Institute publishes the research that informs both platforms. The research is public and independent, and the Institute is never a party to a Strategies engagement.
The team
Led by the founders.
Engagements are led by Colibrí’s founders, who bring both the research behind our work and years of evaluating and backing venture managers. About Colibrí
Dr. Itzel Moncada
Her doctoral research studied how the design of 2,471 US venture funds relates to their performance. She previously invested at Reinventure Capital.
Dr. Mariela Salas
Two decades across venture capital, finance and infrastructure, including leadership roles at JPMorgan, Verizon and Ascendus and as Executive Director of SomosVC.
What we need from you
What we will need from your team.
Before we begin, we agree on what the work requires from your side, so it fits the way your program already runs.
Access
The managers, materials or pipeline you want us to read, shared under NDA in every case.
A named contact
One person on your team who owns the relationship and the decisions it feeds.
Your format
Your committee’s template, standards and timing, so our work drops into your process.
Decision authority
Someone who can confirm scope and act on what the work finds.
Scope and limits
Where the work stops.
These boundaries appear in every engagement letter. We share them here so you can understand our role before the first conversation.
Non-discretionary
We do not hold, control, or direct capital, and we take no custody. Every decision remains with the client.
No placement, no success fees
We are not a placement agent and are not compensated on a raise, a commitment, or a transaction. Fees are fixed and stated in the proposal.
Not an OCIO, and not counsel
We do not manage assets, execute transactions, or provide legal, tax, or accounting advice.
Findings carry their limits
Quantitative work is delivered with its methods, assumptions, and limits attached. We do not publish return or performance claims as marketing.
Institute firewall
Colibrí Institute is never a party to a Strategies engagement. The research is public and independent, and client data never enters it.
Standing behind the work
Operating figures only. Engagement outcomes and quantitative findings are shared under NDA, with methods and limits attached.
